Stick me with a fork, I'm done!

Hm. I appear to have a smudge on my lens, too.

This is a shot of my big project from a few... let's just say that it's something I'd hoped to have done quite a while before this, but thanks to Knitter's ADD, a toddler and my own general laziness, it's taken... er, longer than that.
Here you see ten skeins of yarn. From the top and left to right, they are O'Hara, Snow on the Grapes, Kingsford, Tye Dye, Smoke and Lilacs, Bomb Pop, Editor, Ribbon Candy, Waves, and Sunshine. The reason they're all so wildly different is because they're going to ten different people.
The original plan was to hold a contest for the fine folks at Socknitters. You know how it is. You get to be friends with people you've never met. They send you little handknits when your baby is born, you all send messages of support when somebody is down; all the stuff that makes a community. I wanted to give away a skein of handspun to one of my distant and unmet friends.
Leave a post telling me your favorite color, I said. I'll choose one at random. I got ten responses and ten stories to go with them. So I decided to make ten yarns. Probably a residual effect of the really neat painkillers from my C-section...
Now the skeins are done. I dyed all but three myself. One was done by a friend, one was commercial, one is natural. One yarn was spun entirely on a drop spindle. Some are Navajo plied, some are double-back plied. All are as unique and special to me as their intended recipients.
Who are extremely patient people...

Those are lovely. Folks who know you are pretty darn lucky (I've known that for a while).

Hey when you have a toddler, laziness is a right. ;)

What wonderful gifts to receive - I can never think of anything really creative to bestow on others (other than cake, and that tends not to post abroad too happily!). Well done, you!

I blinked rapidly when I saw the title.....Didn't I just read this and make a comment? Am I losing my mind? Are they in cohoots, plotting to make me think it's time for the assisted living facility?
Her blog's name is Julie's Journey. I wouldn't lie!
Gorgeous yarns! And I had to blink rapidly again when I realized you'd spun them yourself. I bet spiders envy you....

Thanks ever so much.

Thanks for that. I was feeling guilty I hadn't written thank you notes yet, and my baby's 2 months old. I WAS feeling guilty.

Hey Silfert~
Oh my goodness...what a lovely, surprise in my mailbox today...gorgeous, gorgeous handspun yarn. I keep looking at it, caressing it and muttering to it. I don't think in all my life I've ever received anything as nice. Oh, and I loved your little note!
I really do know the amount of blood, sweat and tears that goes into any project and I sooooo appreciate my lovely handspun; (especially since you have a toddler, husband, and a job!
I can only say thank you..and it doesn't seem quite enough. You are so generous and thoughtful and the lovely 'Kingsford' has already wrapped me in happiness.
Hugs, love and thanks again.
M.
P.S. I'm blessed to have you in my life....
